This book introduces the student to the concept of Treble (high) and Bass (low). It also teaches staff notation from F3 (Bass) to G4 (Treble) using contrary scales or The Butterfly Hand Technique. The book also includes time values, whole note to eighth notes and an introduction to 3/4 & 4/4 time. Scales are simply a pattern of notes. This book introduces the 12 major scales (the foundation of Western music) — first in 3 note scales (Do, Re, Mi) then in 5 note scales (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So) and finally in 8 note scales (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do.) Each note scale is accompanied by the chord associated with each note. The 3 + 5 note scales are presented in what looks like a series of blocks and the more elaborate 8 note scales are depicted on a piano keyboard rather than a staff to keep things simple. In the third book of the series that Marie-france has been using for years in her own practice, students can continue to build their foundational skills and understanding.
