Scales are simply a pattern of notes. This book introduces the 12 major scales (the foundation of Western music) — first in 3 note scales (Do, Re, Mi) then in 5 note scales (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So) and finally in 8 note scales (Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do.) Each note scale is accompanied by the chord associated with each note. The 3 + 5 note scales are presented in what looks like a series of blocks and the more elaborate 8 note scales are depicted on a piano keyboard rather than a staff to keep things simple.
